MALE DEAF GREAT DANE 11 MONTHS OLD
Chance is an 11 month old Deaf Male Great Dane
Chance spent the first 11 months of his life living outdoors in a fenced in
yard
Although socialized fairly well with humans Chance had never been trained
to any commands and was not leash trained
or allowed inside the home where he lived his first 11 months of life
C.O.D.A agreed to take Chance into our rescue program in order to give
him a great " Chance" at a greatly improved life being part of a
loving family
and living as an indoor spoiled Great Dane
Chance would like to send special thanks to two of our wonderful
C.O.D.A. Great Dane adopters for giving him a ride to his new life
Special thanks to Becky Bell for driving Chance from Kentucky to Columbus
Ohio
where he met with Isabelle Dane's new mom Sue who drove him from Columbus
Ohio
to Cleveland Ohio so he could arrive safely here at C.O.D.A
Chance arrived here at C.O.D.A. on May 8th 2010
Chance was quite dirty and in need of a good bath so the next morning
Chance went for a ride in the C.O.D.A. van and went to a local self serve
dog bath facility
for a good bath, blow dry and furminating
Chance looked quite stunning once he was nice and clean
Chance very much enjoys playing and exercising at the new C.O.D.A. Dog Park
We started working on crate training with Chance his first night here and
he did very well
considering he was never crate trained prior to his arrival
We think he's just very happy to be inside a home with his human caretakers
as he is doing very well on his crate training and slept well through his
first two nights here
Chance is slightly underweight for his age and size
but other wise appears very healthy
Chance was not neutered when he arrived
Chance visited with our Veterinarian Dr. Bob and was neutered on May 10th
2010
Chance was also tested for heartworm and we are awaiting his test results
Cost of Chance's first Vet Visit = $160.00
Chance is doing well post surgery and was able to come home the same day
Chance is on crate rest for a few days following his neuter surgery and we
will post more update
soon on Chance's progress
We are working on teaching Chance the signs for " sit", " lay",
" no", "stop" , "eat", " potty"
Chance is a very smart boy who is very focused on watching his humans so is
coming along
very quickly on his sign training . Chance is a highly intelligent dog
The leash training will be a bit more work with Chance but he is showing slight
progress already
UPDATE 5.11.10
We dropped of a fecal sample this morning to check for worms since Chance
is so thin
Cost $20.00
Chance's fecal test came back positive for whipworms
Chance has stared on a 3 day panacur treatment for the whipworms
Cost of Panacur for Chance =$80.00
Chance is feeling better and healing nicely from his neuter surgery and did
a few dane zoomies around
the C.O.D.A. Dog Park today and he has a beautiful stride when running and is
amazingly fast for a Great Dane
Chance enjoys playing with the giant Jolly Ball a lot
We will post updates on Chance's progress soon so check back often!
UPDATE 6.13.2010
Chance has learned his sign for SIT and is 100 consistent on responding to the
SIT sign now.
Chance has learned NO and STOP also.
Chance is calming down and doing well but is still very rough to handle on a
leash at this time
Chance has been doing pretty well on his crate training but has had a few pee
accidents while in his crate in his first few weeks here
Chance is becoming very manageable off leash but is still not responding well
to leash training since he was never trained at all on a leash his first 11
months of life.
Chance is celebrating his FIRST BIRTHDAY TOMMORROW
Chance is a very smart boy and very food/treat motivated so we expect to make progress in his training quite easily.
Chance was born June 14th 2009
