EMILY
Emily is an adorable 11 lb Sheltie/Corgi Mix puppy who is 9 months old
Emily was saved from a South Carolina Animal Shelter
Emily was adopted from the shelter and returned the next day by the adopter
because they thought she was blind.
Emily was seen by a Veterinary Opthamologist on August 16th 2004 who confirmed
our prognosis that Emily is not blind at all but is severely visually impaired
Emily's behaviours were unusual which is why she was misdiagnosed as blind.
Emily had never been socialized and had the body language of a blind puppy by
walking crouched low to the ground and moving slowly.
We've determined that Emily most likely spent her entire young life living in
a crate and not being exposed to normal household activity and was just plain
scared to death of everything around her.
Emily has come out of her shell so much in rescue
Emily especially loves to play outdoors or be walked on her leash.
Emily was adopted but was returned to CODA due to biting issues after just
one month
Emily is also very hand shy/aggressive since being returned to rescue which
were issues she did not have at the time of her adoption.
Emily has been moved to our Buffalo area foster home where our very special
foster mom Cathy is patiently working to help Emily overcome whatever caused
her to start acting out in an aggressive biting manner when being touched
by human hands
Emily loves to snuggle against your neck when you hold her and is bonding
very closely with her new foster mom Cathy
and living with 3 Beagles in her new foster home.
Emily is still just a puppy.!
Emily is not currently available for adoption while we work on further training,
correcting her negative behaviours and further socialization with her.
Sadly Emily continued to bite her human caretakers and Dr. Brian determined
that Emily had neurological damage
that was causing a lot of her issues and Emily also had a luxated patella
among other health issues
After Emily bit 8 human caretakers in our foster care program we had to make
the difficult decision to humanely euthanize
Emily.
Our Director held and hugged Emily and helped her pass peacefully over to
the Rainbow Bridge
