HELEN

DEAF 1 Year Old Female Dalmation/Pit Bull Mix

Helen is a 1 year old Spayed Female Dalmation/ Pit Bull Mix
who has been through living hell in her short life
Helen was part of a large animal seizure here in Ohio from Trumball County
back in February of 2010
Helen was born deaf.

This link below will take you to a website that documented the conditions
through photographic evidence of the " So called" Sanctuary that Helen was seized from
earlier this year

Helen arrived in the care of C.O.D.A. on October 17th 2010 after spending 7-8 month being boarded
at a boarding kennel after leaving a warehouse where all 162 dogs from this seizure were initially moved after being
removed from the hoarding/abuse situation in Kinsman Ohio
Helen visited us here at C.O.D.A a few weeks earlier so we could meet Helen and let Helen have a play date here at the
C.O.D.A. Dog Park. Helen played for a few hours with Frankie Blue Eyes while our Director talked with the volunteer
from the Animal Welfare League that drove Helen in for the evaluation visit with C.O.D.A.

After meeting and evaluating Helen our Director Denise Gibson-Franks thought Helen would be a great candidate for
our rescue program here at C.O.D.A since we specialize in the rescue of dogs born deaf.

Helen is settling in here at C.O.D.A and living at our main foster facility and will be personally trained and socialized by our Director

Our Directors initial behavioural evaluation of Helen after spending the past few days working with and getting to know Helen
is as follows

1. Helen has a fear of hands and arm movements indicating that Helen indeed has suffered abuse at the hands of humans

2. Sign training will be a slow process with Helen because of her fear of hands/arm movements due to her previous abuse
3.Helen is capable of playing nicely with other dogs ( we've only tested her with male dogs so far) but Helen does
show signs of alpha behaviours including alpha humping and pinning down playmates smaller than her

( Helen and Houston the day Helen arrived at C.O.D.A.)
4.Helen has some food protection issues which is expected based on seeing the photo's and reading the case details of the living conditions from which Helen was seized, although Helen does not show any food aggression towards her human caretakers she does show aggression if approached by
other dogs while she has food in her possession

5.Helen is protective of her crate and will need some training in regards to being approached by other dogs while in her crate which is also
fully understandable based on the horrid conditions from which Helen was seized
6. Helen has made good progress in a just a few days in regards to trusting her human caretakers and accepting petting
cuddling and other touching with human hands
7. Helen has a wonderful, loving personality even after the hell she has lived through in her very short life

( Helen and Houston kissing noses with each other)
8. Helen has had not indoor potty accidents and waits to go outdoors to relieve herself
9. Helen quite enjoys having a nice clean comfortable blanket in her crate and takes great care to keep it neatly folded and shows no signs of chewing or destructive behaviours in regards to her belongings

10. Helen does not like going outdoors in darkness unless accompanied by her human caretakers

We expect Helen to make great progress here at C.O.D.A and will be posting updates and photos of Helen soon
so check back often for updates on our newest C.O.D.A. rescue dog Helen
