ISABELLE
Mantle Merle Female Great Dane-3 yrs old

UPDATE 2/14/06
Isabelle was rushed to the vet today when we noticed her back paw was swelling
to several times it's normal size
very suddenly. Isabaelle was in severe pain and wouldn't put any weight on
her swollen back paw.
Dr. Brian examined Isabelle and determined that Isabelle was suffering from
a pulmonary thrombosis incident. Isabelle received a shot and was put on several
medications
including prednisone and since she was presenting with a temperature of 106
degrees she was also put
on the antibiotic ciproflexin to reduce her fever.
We packed Isabelle's paw in ice for the remainder of the evening and once
the medication took effect Isabelle's pain dimished
and she rested quietly the remainder of the evening
Isabelle is scheduled for re- examination on 2/16/06
UPDATE 2/17/06
Isabelle's Paw is back to normal size and she is doing fine now

UPDATE 11.20.05
Isabelle continues to do well. She is scheduled to have her sutures removed
11.22.05
Isabelle is very skinny post surgery but her appetitie is great and she is
holding down her food well
Isabelle is still on very small dose feedings six times per day
UPDATE 11.26.05
Isabelle's staples were removed 11.22.05. Isabelle continues to do well her
appetite is good but she
is very underweight post sugery. Isabelle is scheduled for further testing
this tuesday to find out
why she is having difficulty gaining weight. She was very underweight before
she bloated and she doesn't seem to
be assimilating the nutrients from the food she's eating although her appetite
is ravenous
UPDATE 1.7.06
Isabelle is gaining weight nicely and feeling great. She's especially thrilled
that we have a new
deaf puppy in rescue and Isabelle is quite enjoying mothering little Squeak.

We believe Isabelle was used as a breeder prior to coming into rescue and
most likely
had her puppies taken away when they were weaned so she's very happy that
Squeak is with us now.
Isabelle is female Mantle Merle Great Dane
Isabelle came into rescue with CODA on August 15th 2005
Isabelle was surrendered by her owners to Geauga County Humane Society along
with her companion dane Athena
Athena was extremely overweight at over 200 lbs while Isabelle was emaciated
weighing less than 100 lbs
Isabelle back paws were swollen to twice the normal size they should be
Isabelle's ears were so badly infected they were almost swollen shut from
infection
Isbabelle's ears were very painful to her to the touch.
Her ears were in the worst condition we've ever seen a rescue dog come into
rescue with
Isabelle had open bleeding sores all over her body when she was surrendered
Isabelle's angel at the shelter for two months before she arrived safely
here at CODA
was a wonderful lady named Danielle who worked with Isabelle to help her start
to trust people again.
Isabelle came into rescue VERY handshy.
Her first night here after being let off leash to meet the other dogs and
have some time to stretch and exercise,
Isabelle was very scared of anyone touching her collar, reaching at her with
their hands and it took our Director
over four hours to gain Isabelle's trust enough to get a leash on Isabelle
so that she could be lead indoors for the night
Isabelle is also VERY scared of men.
Isabelle visited with our Veterinarian Dr. Brian as soon as she was picked
up from the Shelter
Isabelle was tested for heartworm since the other dane Athena ( Who went to
Birch Haven Great Dane Rescue in Ontario Canada) surrendered with her tested
positive
Isabelle tested negative on the full serology blood test
Isabelle also had her ears examined and treated with otomox by Dr. Brian
Isabelle received a shot for her skin lesions which did clear up quite a bit
under Danielle's care while at the shelter
Isabelle also was treated for whipworms with panacur.
Isabelle is on prednisone for her ears and skin and ciproflexin for her infections
We will have updated info and photo's of Isabelle soon so check back often.
UPDATE-DAY FOUR IN RESCUE
Isabelle has come a long way and is very loving and trusting of her foster
mom
Isabelle is still very scared of her foster dad and we are slowly working
on helping her to trust men again with the help of the
other rescue dogs in her foster home
Isabelle will let her foster mom clean her ears, leash her, touch her collar
and administer medications without any problems
Isabelle loves to go for rides in the CODA van:)
Isabelle has learned to run in and out the door with the other dogs now
Isabelle is fine with cats and other dogs showing absolutely no "other
animal" aggression issues
Isabelle is also house trained and only had one "pee" accident since
arriving
Isabelle sleeps through the night on her dog bed without any problems
Isabelle has free run of her foster home and is not crated at all even when
her foster parents are not at home
and is a very well behaved girl
Isabelle has even started to pay some attention to " dog toys" and
gave her foster mom her first kiss today while they were out
riding in the van doing errands :)
UPDATE 8.27.05
Isabelle has become a very loving and sweet girl with her foster mom. She
is still a bit leary of her foster dad but doing much better than she was
initially. Isabelle has started playing with dog toys and loves to run and
play with the other dogs in her foster home. Isabelle especially likes playing
with Mindi our deaf and blind Aussie puppy
Blake is always showering Isabelle with affection and kisses but Isabelle
seems to prefer Zeus's company:)
Isabelle's ears have improved 100 fold since coming to CODA
Isabelle's skin lesions are almost completely healed
Isabelle's lick granulomas on her legs and paws are improving
Isabelle is putting on weight nicely and has a great appetite
UPDATE 9.4.05
Isabelle is making progress with her fear of men
Isabelle gave her foster dad a good morning kiss and a good night kiss today:)
UPDATE 10.04.05
Isabelle is a whole new dog since her arrival at CODA.
Isabelle lets her foster Dad leash her and take her for walks now
Isabelle is very comfortable with her foster dad now and only gets nervous
if he raises his voice to correct one of the other dogs
Blake has won Isabelle over and she and Blake are best friends now and play
endlessly
Isabelle has learned tug of war from Blake and they love to play tug of war
with their big rope toy.
Isabelle walks perfectly on a leash.
Isabelle now rides nicely in the CODA van without reactive barking at passers by
Isabelle is re-living the puppyhood she never had and loves to spend her days
playing with the other dogs and acting silly
UPDATE 6/10/06
Isabelle is doing fantastic and has become quite a loving dane girl
Isabelle especially enjoys the company of Zeus and her favorite spot is next
to Zeus

Zeus and Isabelle have become quite the dynamic dane duo:)
