Please contact OMAR to apply to adopt Magoo
( Yes that's a bone in Magoo's mouth:)
Magoo arrived back in the care of C.O.D.A. on 4/18/07
Magoo looks marvelous. He's gained so much weight and is at his perfect weight
and has excellent muscle tone and is very nicely groomed.
His adoptive family of the past year has taken wonderful care of Magoo.
Unfortunately Magoo started developing aggression issues with the children
in the home
Therefore it was necessary for Magoo to return to C.O.D.A. so an all adult
home could found for Magoo
Magoo's family of the past year had a very hard time letting go of him because
they very much loved him
Magoo is totally blind seeing only shadows and light and suffers from progressive
retinal degeneration.
Magoo is a Katrina Survivor and came to C.O.D.A originally, soon after hurricaine
Katrina
Magoo is a confident, blind dog who gets around marvelously and loves nothing
more than to be petted,
cuddled, hugged and adored.
Magoo would be a fabulous companion for a couple with no children or an all
adult home lifestyle
Magoo is up to date on all his vaccinations, on heartworm preventative and
neutered
Magoo is currently being fostered by a wonderful lady name Rose Lener from
OMAR rescue who first met Magoo
down in the Katrina Staging area after the hurricane, but lives here in Ohio
not too far from Cleveland

Rose sent these photos' of Magoo taken now that he's settled in a bit at Rose's
house
Magoo's original listing is below

CODA was contacted about Magoo by the Humane Society of Lousianna
_____________________________________________________________
I am contacting you on behalf of the Humane Society of Louisiana.
We have recently rescued a little blind Schnauzer. He seems to be newly blind
as he is always in a state of panic. We have had him neutered and he is currently
staying at a veterinary clinic.
We do not feel that our site, which is in the process of transitioning from
an emergency staging area for Katrina and Rita animal relief and rescue, to
a permanent shelter; is an appropriate place for the Little guy. None of our
staff or volunteers has had any experience with blind animals and he has needs
that we simply cannot meet.
We would be deeply grateful if you could take him into your care @ CODA.
We would see to it that he is safely delivered to you.

CODA agreed to take Magoo into our Rescue Program
Magoo arrived at CODA's main facility in Cleveland Ohio on Sunday Feb 5th
2006
Here is a picture of Magoo with Shelli who helped him get out of NOLA and
safely to CODA
The HSLA believes that Magoo lost his eyesight due to being stuck on a rooftop
for a long period of time awaiting rescue and had retina damage to his eyes
from the searing sunlight
After evaluating Magoo once he's had a while to settle in we believe Magoo
was born blind as he moves with
confidence and goes readily up and down stairs and uses his other senses to
navigate like dogs who are born blind
Magoo is a very loving and sweet little dog who is adjusting to his blindness
well. He's still a little jumpy
but we're working on teaching him verbal commands and cues to lessen his jumpiness
Magoo is currently in quarantine and will be seeing our Veterinarian Dr. Brian
later this week
Magoo appears to be in pretty good health. His teeth are gorgeous. He doesn't
appear to be very old
Magoo is crate trained, and walks well on a leash albeight being blind
We believe Magoo can distinguish between daylight and darkness
Magoo is underweight and in need of a good professional grooming.
Magoo was neutered by the HSLA and brought up to date on all his vaccinations
prior to his transport
to CODA in Cleveland Ohio
Magoo has tested negative for heartworms
Magoo enjoyed meeting Ubi's foster kid Joanna as Joanna's Dad drove down
to meet Magoo's transport
and Joanna kept Magoo happy and well cared for until we could move him to
our main facility later that day
Magoo may have had a child in his life before becoming a Hurricane Katrina
Survivor as he was very playful
and energetic when Joanna talked to him as if he liked children's voices
Magoo likes to be held and will readily give " lots of kisses" when
you're holding him!
Magoo will cry to be let out of his crate if he has to potty
Magoo is eating well and is enjoying his dog toys and treats
Magoo currently weighs 15 lbs but is slightly underweight right now
We will be posting updates on Magoo soon so please check back regularly for
more info on Magoo.
UPDATE 2/7/06
We received the following information on how Magoo came into the care of the
HSLA
________________________
He was found as a stray in the Bogalusa, LA area
He was wandering around and the animal control officer thought that he was
vicious
because Magoo would bark at the guy and "look at him funny".
He was trying to get Magoo with a catchpole to put him in a crate and I went
in the pen
and Magoo sniffed me and then jumped up in my lap, tail wagging and started
licking me.
I told the ACO that he was blind after we had gotten him
and he said, "well, that would explain why he seemed a little uneasy.
He doesn't have a vicious bone in his body.
UPDATE 2/7/06
Magoo was examined by Dr. Bob today and given a clean bill of health.
Dr. Bob diagnosed Magoo with progressive rentinal degeneration, which means
that Magoo
has been slowly going blind for some time now which is why he has been able
to adjust to his
blindness so well. Dr. Bob also places Magoo's age at between 5-6 years old
based on the lens calsification
levels in his eyes. Magoo was a silly and happy boy at his Vet visit and gave
Dr. Bob lots of kisses
Magoo is medically released for adoption and is coming along very well in
his foster home
Magoo is totally housebroken and keeps his crate nice and clean with all his
toys and chewies nearby
Magoo enjoys his daily outings to potty on his leash and is tolerating the
snow well here in Cleveland
Magoo is getting along very well with several of the kitties here at CODA's
main facility
Magoo is still a typical Schnauzer mix and will bark and carry on with the
other dogs and would do best
as the only dog in his new home but dog savvy cats would work well with Magoo
Magoo has started on his heartguard tablets for heartworm prevention
UPDATE 2/18/06
Magoo received a professional grooming yesterday and he looks so handsome
now!
Magoo did not like having his nails trimmed at all though
Update photo's of Magoo coming soon
