OPAL

Opal is a female Purebred Australian Shepherd
Opal was saved from a kill shelter in Athens Ohio
Opal came into rescue with CODA on December 14, 2005
Opal is deaf and but her vision is great although her pupils are a bit smaller
than they should be
her sense of vision is very functional and should remain so throughout her
life
Opal has a wonderful sense of smell and loves to be cuddled and held
Opal is doing well on her house training and is housebroken
Opal has a gorgeous full fluffy Aussie tail.
When Opal was first saved from the Athens Shelter she was saved by another
rescue group who had her in a foster home that kept her chained outdoors which
is the reason we agreed to take Opal
into our program at CODA.
Opal's foster Mom says that Opal adjusted very easily and quickly to being
a spoiled indoor dog
Opal only had one accident in the house on her first day and none since her
first day, so at
one time Opal must have been a loved indoor pet before being picked up stray
and winding up
in a shelter where she was facing euthanasia.

Opal is completely white in color with no visible merle coloring on her body
except a small touch here and there
Opal has been spayed and is up to date on all her vaccinations
Opal loves to burrow into her blankie at night
Opal does have a slight problem with chewing at a leash when tethered
Opal is currently in transit to our Arlington TX foster home
Updates coming once Opal arrives in TX.
UPDATE 1/28/05
Opal has been safely in our TX Foster Home for several weeks now and has settled
in nicely.
Opal's foster mom says that Opal is her first foster dog who has made her
life easier because
Opal is happy to wear the boy boxers in her foster home out and keeps them
tired and happy
Opal is especially bonded to a blind male dog in her foster home and they
are best friends
Opal's housbreaking skills are perfect and Opal's foster mom says that Opal
is a very sweet
and loving dog who is learning her signs and house manners quickly and is
a pleasure to have in the home.
It is obvious that at some time Opal was a loved pet before being found stray
and facing certain death in a kill
shelter when she was not reclaimed by her previous owner.
Opal's only bad habit is bolting for the front door if it's opened and her
foster mom is working on correcting that behaviour
This is how Opal most likely wound up stray and in danger at the shelter in
Athens Ohio.
UPDATE 6/1/06 FROM OPAL'S FOSTER MOM
She's doing great. Her best buddy is my blind foster boy, Charlie.
He's an aussie or border collie mix, I can't tell. They're about the
same age and lay on the dog beds together. She's awesome. Noisy in her
crate because she would rather be out but that's her only fault. She
sits on command, has fairly nice manners and is so friendly. She hasn't
met a dog yet she doesn't like. Second best buddy is Tiser, my
blind boxer foster boy. They love to run around the yard. She cheats
by sneaking up behind them so I put a bell on her to make it a little
easier for the boys to find her when they play chase. I wish I could
send you a movie of her playing with the boys and a "normal" boxer.
Bet
no one could figure out which ones aren't "normal". House broken,
knows "potty" and "sit", "quiet" and "outside".
She's ready for her
forever home!
