QUINN -THE BATH /CO-ED SPA EXPERIENCE
Quinn's Rescue Day #3
Quinn spent the day coming over to the computer where I was working
and sitting down next to me to be petted. Then up and outside to play with
Hoku. Then back to me to be petted. Hoku clearly didn't mind how he smelled.
But I was beginning to. So...I decided that since Quinn apparantly had made
a
complete transition from Cujo to Cassanova, it was time for The Bath.
I readied up the bathroom with the big shower and all the shower
heads that point every which way. Baby shampoo, and for the rear that was
matted with poo, a doggie shampoo mitt. I got into a bathing suit and put
on a
pair of canvas sneakers. Then I invited Quinn upstairs (someplace he had not
yet been in the time he had been here, it being the only carpeted part of
the
house). I called Quinn over to the steps. He looked at the steps. Then he
looked at me. Then he walked away. Aha. The secret weapon was needed. Hoku.
I
called Hoku over and had her run upstairs. Quinn came back to the steps. He
went up three whole steps. Then turned around and went down again.
I went up about five steps and signed Come. He came and sat next to
me. I moved up another few steps. He followed. We got to the landing. Only
5
more steps to go. But Quinn wasn't sure he wanted to leave the landing.
Meanwhile, my hubby was downstairs watching the scene. "Why don't you
just put a
leash on him and pull him upstairs," he said. I reminded him of the last
time
he had tried to make Quinn do something he was not ready to do, and invited
him to put a leash on Quinn and pull him upstairs if he really thought it
was
the wise thing to do.
( Kim's husban was bit by Quinn on day #1)
Needless to say, we proceded our slow but steady
unleashed progress.
Once Quinn got upstairs, Hoku was eager to show him around. The
bathroom (not the one we were using, of course), my closet where, if I
forget to close the door, she can find a treasure trove of my socks to play
with,
and finally down to the bathroom with the big
shower. "Shut the door and trap him," said my hubby. I reminded
him
that "trap" might not be a good word to use with Quinn. So Quinn
and Hoku
marched around the upstairs, into the bathroom, and finally into the shower
where I stood, ready in my sneakers and bathing suit.
"We are not bathing two dogs together," said my hubby. "I
think Quinn would
have more fun that way," I said smiling (having been advised by Denise
at
CODA that if Quinn saw Hoku having a good time with her bath, he might be
more
"receptive").
Well, to make a long story short, Hoku and Quinn had their coed spa
experience. It was Quinn who loved having the bath, though. He wagged his
tail and slithered his lathered body along my legs and stood with a smile
on
his face as the shower water rained down on him. The only part he didn't like
was when I had to cut off the poo-infested hair plugs around his bottom
(DISGUSTING).
A couple of times he tried to pull away and when I wouldn't let him,
put his open mouth on my hand - but never bit. Not the least bit of pressure
from his teeth. Most of the time, though, he trotted around the shower, tail
wagging, shaking off the water and then letting it run on him again. Hoku
also had her bath. But not with the great joy that Quinn showed.
After the bath, we dried them both off with towels and used a blower and
brushed them. Quinn absolutely loved the brushing and blowing part too. He
just
stood there and let us brush and blow and brush and blow. Didn't try to get
away. You could tell he was really enjoying it. I wonder if somewhere in his
past (he was found as a stray), he might have been a pampered pet and this
reminded him of that past.
Well, Quinn is now even MORE beautiful than he was. His coat is shiny and
has a beautiful, even wave to it. And now he smells good to me as well as
to
Hoku.
