SCRAPPY

SCRAPPY-DEAF GREAT DANE

Scrappy arrived at CODA dog rescue Sunday March 20th 2005
and is FINALLY off that horrible chain she has spent most of her life tied to.

The photo above show's how Scrappy spent her days before coming into rescue with CODA
The photo below show's how Scrappy now spends her days at CODA rescue

That's Scrappy on the left and Chase and Finnean her foster fursiblings

Scrappy had not seen a veterinarian since she was 16 weeks old.

Scrappy is a very sweet and loving girl that has had absolutely no training or socialization but is already learning house manners and some signs and has begun her leash training regimine.

Scrappy's vaccinations , heartworm test and physical exam cost us $87 dollars on tuesday 3/22/05
(Scrappy's heartworm test was negative thank goodness)

Scrappy is on antibiotics for a skin infection. Scrappy is also fully in heat.
We also discovered that Scrappy has tapeworm from previous flea infestations (3/25/05)
Scrappy received her first tapeworm medication on 3/25/05 cost $30
Scrappy received her second tapworm medications on 4/15/05 cost $30

Scrappy's spay surgery will cost us $200 as Great Danes are expensive to spay and we only use a dane experienced
Veterinarian to Spay or Neuter our Dane intakes due to anethesia issues and other medical concerns
We will not spay or neuter a Giant Breed dog at our local low cost/spay neuter clinic

CAN YOU HELP US HELP SCRAPPY?

SHE IS SO HAPPY TO FINALLY BE OFF THAT CHAIN AND BE ABLE TO RUN AND PLAY WITH OTHER DOGS AND HAVE HUMAN ATTENTION!

Scrappy has a very loving and trusting personality.
Scrappy is also very intelligent and learning what is expected of her quickly.
Scrappy's previous owners kept her on calming medications
Scrappy is not on any medications to keep her calm here at CODA
Scrappy is a very happy, playful, gentle ,energetic, teenage dane
Scrappy will not be 2 years old until June of 2005
Scrappy has not had any accidents in the house in her foster home
Scrappy is walking nicely on her leash from the fenced in yard at her foster home to the van and loves to go for rides
Scrappy's car manners are excellent and she is well behaved during rides
Scrappy still needs a lot of leash training which her foster parents are doing daily with her.
Scrappy is very non alpha and friendly with all the other dogs in her foster home.
Scrappy is also fine with the cats in her foster home

( Scrappy in her "hand me down" Dane Sweater napping with the cats in her foster home)
Scrappy is relatively calm indoors now but will get excited if one of the other dogs initiates play
(Thanks Blake and Finnean:)
Scrappy loves to play with dog toys. She especially loves a good game of "tug of war" which our rescue
Bull Terrier Blake adores about her
Scrappy likes to cling to her foster mom and is very gentle off leash in the fenced in play area
and likes to assist with the daily, "poop duty" routine
We have cured Scrappy's behaviour of jumping up on humans and putting her paws on their shoulders
Scrappy now comes over and leans on you when she wants petting or attention.
Scrappy loves to lay her head in your lap

Our funds told us we really couldn't help Scrappy as we recently committed to the 3 deaf Aussie puppies, Sparky,Mindi and Wendy, but when we found out all the Great Dane rescues were filled and unable to help Scrappy we knew it was up to us to save her from the horrible life she's had so far since she was within transport distance from our rescue

UPDATE 5/5/05
Scrappy was spayed on 5/2/05 and is recovering nicely. The spay was very hard on her the first few days but today Scrappy
was up and wanting to play , "stuffy toy catch" with her foster mom:)
Scrappy has been allowed free access to her foster home even when her foster parents are gone this week for the first time
and has been a very well behaved girl. Scrappy has stayed out at nights with free access in her foster home ( with the kitchen door closed:) for several weeks now and is a good girl during the night and settles down and goes to sleep with the
rest of the household without any problems.
The only bad habit Scrappy still has which has greatly improved is counter surfing but now she knows it's a "no no" and only
trys when she thinks no one is looking, and we are still working on her leash manners but she is a lot better on lead now than
when she came into rescue.
Scrappy's spay surgery cost us $275.00
UPDATE 5/12/05
Scrappy's sutures were removed today and her scar is healing nicely
Scrappy is back to feeling great and playing
Scrappy was a very good girl today when Dr. Bob removed her sutures
