Zeus has passed onto the Rainbow Bridge
He died in his sleep at the only home he's ever known here at
C.O.D.A.
Zeus was loved so very much by everyone who knew him
Zeus was a wonderful Mascot for C.O.D.A. for six years
Zeus taught us so much about unconditional love and trust
Zeus was the sweetest most gentle soul who made quick friends with every person
and animal he ever shared space or time with
All the other C.O.D.A animals that came through our rescue program while we were blessed to have Zeus
totally loved and respected Zeus.
He was a very huge presence and a wonderful influence on any incoming rescue dogs in training
Zeus was the reason that C.O.D.A. Dog Rescue came into existence
If not for Zeus C.O.D.A would have never been founded
We learned so much from Zeus about how to help other blind dogs in need
Zeus proved to us that dogs can indeed learn to count
Zeus learned to count to four to manage the stairs here at C.O.D.A so that he could go outside himself
to play with the other dogs.
Zeus had the vocabulary of a six year old human child
Zeus loved music and always loved to ride in the C.O.D.A van
Even though he was totally blind he would get so excited when he heard the van keys jingle
Zeus loved to listen to old time rock-n-roll when riding in the van and loved to go for long road trips
and went on many long road trips over the years, helping other dogs get to their new homes.
Zeus helped save a stray Great Dane many years ago that was dying from heat exhaustion and animal control
couldn't get the dane trapped or collared and leashed
So when C.O.D.A. got the call, Zeus was more than happy to help
Zeus convinced the stray dane boy that his humans could be trusted to help and within a half hour
the poor dane boy was safely in the C.O.D.A. van and on his way to recovery
There are so many wonderful memories and stories of our time with Zeus
Zeus huge paws have left a very huge imprint on our lives and in our hearts

We will think of you each time we hear the rain falling from the sky and once again in our minds eye see your ears perk up
at the sound of rain and graceful dane dance you always did to signal you wanted to get out in the rain and feel the rain
fall on your body, and lick the rain right out of the sky
We thank you so much Zeus for all you gave to us and all the other animals you've helped along the way

 

TASHA


October 17th 2009

Tasha passed away quietly Saturday from complications from recently
diagnosed lymphoma.
Tasha was rescued from Scioto Dog Pound in Ohio and had the great fortune
to be adopted by a wonderful Great Dane savvy mom who took wonderful care of Tasha
and gave her a loving home
We rescued Tasha because she looked so much like our Zeus but Tasha was nothing like Zeus in personality
Tasha was a very spirited , confident dane girl who didn't take kindly to cats so needed a very
experienced dane home with no kitties. When Tasha's foster parents were leaving for a vacation in Florida
for two weeks, we asked a very dane savvy lady who had helped us transport dogs to safety many times if she
would consider fostering Tasha for two weeks until her foster parents returned from Florida
Tasha managed to make her mom Becky fall in love with her within those two weeks and landed herself
a really super home which she shared with several other Great Danes over the years
Tasha's mom also adopted our Rocky the Great Dane. We're sure Rocky will miss our Miss Tasha Dane as will
her wonderful mom.

Thank you Becky for giving Tasha the home she so needed and deserved
Our thoughts are with you at this sad time

Shirley

October 8th 2009
Shirley our little " Miracle Girl" poodle has left us today.
Shirley's mom called me yesterday to let me know Shirley wasn't doing well
and I went over and visited with Ann and Shirley
Shirley started having seizures tuesday evening after returning home from seeing Dr. Brian.
Shirley had gradually lost her eyesight over the past year from her cataracts
and Shirley had a heart murmur when she arrived at C.O.D.A. on March 7th 2006
and was heartworm positive.
We called her our " little miracle girl" because she survived the heartworm treatments,
major dental work and regained all her fur miraclously well.
We never knew for sure just how old Shirley was when she arrived at C.O.D.A.
because her teeth were in such poor shape it was impossible to determine her age
but we knew she was an older dog that was at the very least 7-9 years old.
Shirley had the great fortune to be adopted by her " perfect mom".
Ann loved Shirley with all her heart and soul and I couldn't have found a more perfect adoptive parent for our little Shirley.
Shirley blossomed into the total " little spoiled Princess" under Ann's care.

Ann could barely speak through the tears this evening when she called me to let me know
that Shirley had more seizures last night and was crying in pain and she had to let Shirley go
Shirley has always held a very special place in my heart and she touched the hearts of all of our C.O.D.A. volunteers
who met her while she was in our care.
Please keep Ann in your thoughts.
Shirley was blessed to have Ann in her life.
Shirley was deeply loved the last two years of her life with Ann and very, very spoiled.

Claire

Clair Dane passed on to the Rainbow Bridge with the help of her adoptive parents
Claire was unable to stand on her own and was having other health issues severely reducing her quality of life
Our thoughts go out to Claires adoptive parents at this time

Kabato

Our much loved Kabato passed to the Rainbow Bridge on the same day in Nov 2008
as Honey aka Lilly listed below.
A very sad day here at C.O.D.A.
Kabato was older when he came into CODA in need of a new home after being abandoned by his previous owners
Kabato was adopted by a wonderful new Mom Kim shortly after coming into rescue at CODA
Kim has taken wondeful care of Kabato since adopting him but Kabato was suffering
from age related severe hip and joint problems for some years now and Kim was doing everything she could to ensure
Kabato was having a good quality of life and living as pain free as possible
In November Kabato started having his back legs /rear end just start giving out on him
and he was experiencing severe pain which medication wasn't helping with at doses that would allow
Kabato to have a good quality of life so Kim had to make the tough decision to let Kabato
go and we know it was the toughest decision of her life
Kabato is greatly missed by both Kim and his fursister Princess Dane who cried and moped for days after Kabato's passing
Kabato had the sweetest, most loving personality and everyone
who ever met him fell instantly in love with his easy going nature
Kabato had a magic within him that touched lives during his time
here on earth and his are very big paws to fill
Our hearts and prayers go out to Kim and Princess
at this very sad time.
Kabato will always be remembered here at CODA
He touched all of our hearts in a very big dane sized way!

Honey aka Lilly ( Boxer)

Honey known as Lilly since her adoption, passed away in November 2008
Lilly had presented with a rectal prolapse which her adoptive parents thought was
repaired via a rectal prolapse surgery. A few weeks later Lilly started prolapsing again
Lilly was scheduled for a second repair surgery ( which is very high risk) to try
to correct the problem surgically, but when the surgeon opening Lilly up
it was determined that the damage was too great to repair and Lilly's adoptive parents
had to make the tough decision to ease Lilly's suffering and to let her pass over to the
Rainbow Bridge while still under anethesia
We are sure that the horrible condition Lilly arrived in played a major role in her
dying at such a young age. Lilly was starved upon arrival at CODA after she was
rescued from the Mohoning County Dog Pound in Ohio.
Lilly went to our KY foster home for recovery and much needed love and proper care after spending a few days
recovering at our Veterinarian's office here in Cleveland Ohio
Lilly's foster parents Lori and Jason fell in love with her and decided that Lilly was so
special that they just couldn't give her up for adopton and decided to adopt Lilly so they were sure
she would always be well fed and cared for .
Lilly had a wonderfully determined spirit and even when she arrived starved and skin and bones, Lilly
was cooperative and trusting and ready to recover and get busy playing and being a happy, loving dog
Our thoughts are with Lori and Jason and their children at this very sad time
Lori and Jason have fostered for CODA for many years now and they never take on the easy rescue cases
they are always there for CODA when an animal needs them the most , like in Lilly's case
We thank them from the bottom of our hearts for being there for Lilly when she needed them
and for giving Lilly a wonderful few years knowing what a dog's life should really be like
Lilly will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her and whos life she touched with her big smile
and zest for life.

Lilly Dane

Lilly was saved from the Cleveland Animal Protective League where she was deemed
unadoptable due to her age and medical problems with one of her rear legs
Lilly was callously dumped in this kill shelter by her previous owners at the age of 7 which is a senior age for a Great Dane
Lilly was adopted by a wonderful family in 2005 and we sadly received the following update from Lilly's family

"In June of this year we had to put Lilly down because of bone cancer in that
bad leg she has always had. She was a blessing to our family and is thought
of daily in our hearts and prayers. "

We thank Lilly's family for opening their hearts and their home to a senior Great Dane
Lilly was a very calm, loving and super well behaved Great Dane girl and Lilly will be missed
by all of us here at C.O.D.A who knew her . We are so happy to know that Lilly spent her last few years
receiving much love and care from her adoptive family as she so richly deserved

Abbigail

Our little Abbey died recently of renal failure. Abbey was very special to everyone
here at C.O.D.A. and to her adoptive parents Moira and Mark
Abby was such an intelligent and loving little mini dachsund
Abby taught Shirley how to walk up and down stairs when Shirley arrived at C.O.D.A.
Shirley often visited Abbey at her new home after Abbey was adopted and Abbey visited Shirley at her new adoptive
home when Shirley was adopted within walking distance of Abbey's new home
Abbey had a very rough life life before arriving at C.O.D.A. but Abbey spent the last year of her life
a very much loved and spoiled little girl in the care of her adoptive parents
We could tell everytime we visited that Abbey had the home she had always dreamed of and desired
We can't thank Moira and Mark enough for opening their hearts and their lovely home to our little Abbigail
and giving her the proper care, spoiling and love she deserved so very much
Abbey will be greatly missed by all of us


Casper

A shelter that KNOWS it has a parvo epidemic but
does NOTHING to stop the problem and just keeps intaking
dogs so they can all be exposed to this deadly disease!
They also use a coverted dump truck to gas dogs to death
Poor Casper never had a chance from the second he was forced in the doors of this inhumanely operated
dog control facility
(Casper died at a Vet office in North Carolina a few days after we saved him from this horrible shelter)

Ruby arrived at CODA with a severe grade 5 heart mumur and mammorry tumors from all the hormones pumped into
her body by the profit seeking Amish Puppy Mill owners who then callously dumped Ruby at their local Holmes County Animal shelter
when she could no longer breed sellable puppies for them
We rescued Ruby from the Holmes County Dog Pound
Ruby was adopted by the most wonderful dog mom any dog could wish for ,who already was mom to our
adopted CODA dog George, also a Cocker Spaniel

Ruby's Mom explains below Ruby's passing
I had to put Ruby down about a week ago. The medicine she'd been on was starting not to work well and her coughing had increased in frequency again. However, the bigger concern was that her breast tumors had probably tripled in size and developed open sores which were seeping fluid. I kept her in diapers the last couple weeks and monitored the dischard which eventually turned kind of thick and green. The vet said it was most likely infected and they were concerned with George's exposure to it since he was constantly cleaning her. She also never got over the labored breathing so, after changing my mind a million times, I finally felt it would be best for her if I let her go.

I stayed with her right up to the end and she went very peacefully with me holding her. I buried her at my parents house with my childhood pets so she would not be alone. It was probably the hardest decision I've ever made and the hardest thing I've ever done, but I still feel it was the right thing to do for her. She had had such a rough life, I didn't want her to suffer at all in the end. George and I miss her terribly, but we're glad she didn't have to suffer and possibly die alone while I was at work.

Jordon
( Left us April 10th 2006)
The sweetest most loving little blind Beagle Jordon is now at the Rainbow Bridge
Living pain free for the first time in a very long time
We rescued Jordon on March 7th 2006 from Pike County Dog Pound
Jordon had many serious health issues including painful glacoma, painful dental problems
a BB pellet in his stomach from being shot by a BB gun
Gastrointestinal problems including pebbles in his stomach and the most serious issue
which presented post rescue which was 4 injured disks in his spine which caused Jordon
to become paralyzed in his rear legs and incontient
We were able to do our best to solve all of Jordon's healh issues but when the paralysis presented
due to Jordon's advanced age he had little chance of recovery and being able to live pain free
even with disk repair surgery due to his advanced age
Jordon lived the last four weeks of his life knowing what proper care and love were most likely
for the first time in his life.
Jordon had a wonderful new Mom anxious to bring him home and love him for the rest of his life
but it was not meant to be when Jordon presented with paralysis and extreme pain
It was with a very heavy heart and many tears that we helped Jordon to the Rainbow Bridge
We will miss you Jordon. You have touched all our hearts in a very profound way in your short time
with us here at CODA.
Jordon went to the Rainbow Bridge with his new Mom and his foster parents by his side

Schatzie
( Left us January 30th 2006)
Our wonderful little Schatzie died on Jan 30th 06 from congestive heart failure
( Sick Sinus Sydrome was the diagnosis)
Schatzie passed quickly and without any lingering pain or extended loss of quality of life
We were very saddened to hear the news of Schatzie's passing as Schatzie had wonderful
parents who loved him with all their hearts.
Schatzie spent the last seven months of his life
loved, spoiled and filling his new parents lives with much happiness and joy because Schatzie had
the most wonderful personality and was such a very special little guy
Schatzie fell in love with his parents the minute he met them and they with him
Our hearts and prayers are with Schatzie parents Dava and Ric at this sad time
Dava and Ric opened their hearts and home to Schatzie knowing that he had cushings disease and heart arrythmia's
Most people would not open their hearts to a dog with all of Schatzie's medical problems fearing the great loss that comes with falling in love with a wonderful pet, but the fact
that Schatzie needed so much special care and would be hard to adopt due to his medical needs is what
drew his parents Dava and Ric to open their hearts and home to Schatzie
Like Schatzie ,Dava and Ric have hearts of gold and we couldn't have wished for more perfect parents
for our much loved little darling Minature Schnauzer
As Dava told us when they adopted Schatzie
"We will love him for whatever time he is blessed to have left in life"
We just wish Schatzie could have spent many years enjoying all the love Dava and Ric had to share with him but it was not meant to be
Schatzie left this world as a loved family member and will be waiting at the Rainbow Bridge
for his parents knowing that he was one of the lucky rescue dogs who had all any dog could wish for,
even if just for a short time
Schatzie will live on in all our hearts and memories

Arriella
(March 26th 2004- August 16th 2004)

Sadly our little Arriella crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge on August 16th 2004 just a few days before she was to become part of her wonderful new family in Cuyahoga Falls Ohio.
Arriella is now at the Rainbow Bridge but she is not one of the rescue dogs who went to the Rainbow Bridge without a family to love her because her family very much loved her and were so anxious to meet Arriella.
Arriella's Family's hearts along with all of ours are very saddened by Arriella's passing.
Our prayers go out to Arriella's Family .
We know you would have given Arriella a wonderful loving forever home.

Arriella became ill with a cough that appeared to be Kennel Cough. She was immediately put on antibiotics but after a few days did not seem to be improving. On Saturday evening she didn't eat at all for her foster mom. On Sunday Arriella had green nasal discharge and was lethargic.The foster mom called her vet and made arrangements to get Arriella to the vet first thing Monday morning.

However, when Arriella's Foster Mom went to get her from her
crate, she was unconscious.She rushed Arriella to the vet. The vet had Arriella on
a strong antibiotic IV all day. Arriella never regained consciousness. Arriella's Foster Mom visited
with her and petted her and spoke to her from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The
vet and Arriella's Foster Mom agreed to keep her on IV's overnight . However, at 8:07 p.m. Arriella's Foster Mom received the call that Arriella had passed away

People loved you so dearly our little Angel
Many tears and many broken hearts will help to guide you on your journey to the Rainbow Bridge
So you may romp through the grass, without even a care

SOPHIE

Sophie was found lying in a ditch in Georgia near Atlanta. The lady who originally found Sophie and contacted us about rescuing her believed Sophie was both deaf and blind as she didn't appear to be able to see nor hear. We had Sophie see a vet there in Georgia where she was treated for a horrible infection in her stomach and was also brought up to date on all her vaccinations and spayed. Sophie stayed at the vet's there in Georgia for over a week recovering from her life threatening health issues. Sophie is currently deaf due to the ear infections she was suffering from.
SOPHIE WAS ADOPTED BY HER FOSTER MOM WHO FELL TOTALLY
IN LOVE WITH SOPHIE AND COULDN'T PART WITH HER!
SOPHIE TOTALLY IGNORES ANY OTHER HUMAN BEING EXCEPT HER "MOMMY LINDA"
SO CODA IS HAPPY THAT THE FEELING WAS SO MUTUAL BETWEEN THEM!
SOPHIE WILL LIVE OUT HER LIFE IN THE LAP OF "MOMMY LINDA"
Sadly our Sophie has a major stroke in September of 2005 and had to be humanely euthanized
Sophie lived out her life after coming into CODA in the loving care of her "Mommy Linda" and knew love and proper care
for the first time in her life in her last years and her "Mommy Linda" was there to hold her tight and help her pass over to the Rainbow Bridge

EMILY

We've determined that Emily most likely spent her entire young life living in a crate and not being exposed to normal household activity and was just plain scared to death of everything around her. Emily was saved from an Anderson South Carolina
Kill Shelter after being adopted and returned when the adopter thought Emily was totally blind
Emily's behaviours were unusual which is why she was misdiagnosed as blind.
Emily had never been socialized and had the body language of a blind puppy by walking crouched low to the ground and moving slowly.
Emily was adopted but was returned to CODA due to biting issues after just one month
Emily is also very hand shy/aggressive since being returned to rescue which were issues she did not have at the time of her adoption.
Emily was moved to our Buffalo NY foster home to a foster mom who had a lot of experience with fear aggressive biting in small breed dogs.
Sadly Emily continued to bite her human caretakers and Dr. Brian determined that Emily had neurological damage
that was causing a lot of her issues and Emily also had a luxated patella among other health issues
After Emily bit 8 human caretakers in our foster care program we had to make the difficult decision to humanely euthanize
Emily.
Our Director held and hugged Emily and helped her pass peacefully over to the Rainbow Bridge
