UPDATE: 8/16/03

Well Zeus is having a rough day today. He was treated this past Thursday with Interceptor to protect him from heartworm, since he tested negative in his heartworm blood test on August 13th, and also to help kill his intestinal parasites.

Zeus woke up this morning, throwing up, and worms are visible. So his body is doing it's best to eliminate the internal parasites but it's going to be a rough couple of days for him until we can get his internal parasites evicted forever.

ON a better note:
Zeus had his 2nd appointment with Dr. Brian his veterinarian today. Dr. Brian immediately commented on how much better Zeus looked in just 4 short days since he has last seen him on Tuesday August 12th.

Zeus's ear infections have improved drastically and his dosage of Otomax has been lowered to 2 times per week instead of the 2 times per day he has been on for the past 4 days.

Zeus's hip callouses look improvedly better after just 4 days of being on the Baytil. Zeus will be ending his Bayril treatments on this upcoming Monday evening.

Zeus's eyes looked much better also according to Dr. Brian and therefore his eye drops dosage has been lowered from 2 times per day to 1 time per day for the next two weeks until we see Dr. Brian again.

I had informed Dr. Brian that Zeus's appetite was poor but he was drinking a lot of water and urinating frequently and wondered if perhaps diabetes could be an issue. Dr. Brian said, "Lets find out right now" so he drew a blood sample and tested Zeus's glucose levels and great news, Zeus does NOT have diabetes.
(We were concerned this could have been a cause of early blindness since Zeus is only 3 years old)

Dr. Brian started Zeus on another medication today to help heal his intestinal tract.
Zeus is starting 500 mg treatments -3 times per day of Metronidazole for a period of 7 days.

Dr. Brian also sent home with Zeus some Otirinse to help with keeping his ears clean between his Otomax treatments.

Dr Brian also felt that Zeus's elbows looked better than a few days ago and thought Zeus's overall stance and the way he carried himself on his legs had improved. I'm sure being free to walk around a fenced in yard and get some exercise along with soft padding to sleep on has helped Zeus to heal a bit as did Dr. Brian.

Dr Brian commented that he was truly surprised that Zeus looks so much better in just 4 short days since he has last seen him and he also commented that he was amazed at what a great personality Zeus has after all the neglect he's obviously survived.

Dr. Brian said our focus for the next two weeks should be on trying to put some weight on Zeus and getting him strong enough for his vaccinations.

So we go back to see Dr. Brian in two weeks and we're hoping that Zeus will gain some weight in the next 2 weeks, and start feeling stronger so that he can handle his vaccinations and his neuter surgery.

So now we need to raise $182.00 for Zeus's vaccinations and neuter surgery.
Todays visit with medicines ran us $76.00 which we covered ourselves. We did receive donations from some wonderful caring people that helped to cover most of Zeus last vet bill for $135.00.

Once all Zeus's basic vetting is done we hope to be able to list him on IMOM http://www.imom.org
so that we can get help in raising funds for Zeus's cataract surgery and pre op staging and blood tests. Dr. Brian is working with the eye surgeon he's recommended to convince the eye surgeon to work with IMOM in order to help Zeus see again even if only out of one eye as Dr. Brian stated today that would greatly increase Zeus' quality of life and with such a wonderful gentle spirit inside Zeus's great big body he sure deserves a chance at seeing the world around him again:)

Below is a picture of Zeus resting on the patio with his foster brother Finnean during the big power outage we had here in Cleveland 8/14/03 The whole East Coast of the USA was in the dark like poor Zeus's world is every day of his life. Finnean was sticking close to Zeus as Finnean can't see well in the dark and Zeus obviously has getting around in the dark worked out to a fine science!

But Finnean is starting to help guide Zeus around during the day when he sees Zeus heading towards something, Finnean runs between Zeus and the object:) This is helping the bumps and scars on Zeus head to heal more quickly!
